How To Determine The Quality Of A Background Suppression Photoelectric Sensor?

Methods for Judging the Quality of Background Suppression Photoelectric Sensors

I. Appearance and Structure (Quick Initial Judgment, Avoiding Workmanship Defects)

Optical Lens: The lens is transparent, free of scratches, fogging, and impurities, with uniform coating; inferior products are prone to yellowing, light transmission attenuation, and long-term sensitivity decline.

Spot Structure: High-quality products have small/rectangular spots with clear edges; generic products have diffused spots and severe astigmatism, easily leading to false detections at close range.

Housing and Adjustment Knob: The housing is flame-retardant and aging-resistant, with uniform damping and precise scale adjustment; inferior knobs are loose, have large scale deviations, and lack adjustment gradients.

Wiring/Interface: Pins and cable shielding are intact, and waterproof sealing is tight; industrial models have reverse connection and short-circuit protection structures.

II. Core Performance Testing (Most Critical, Differentiating Between Good and Bad)

1. Background Suppression Cut-off Distance (Core Indicator) Fix the sensor position and use a strong reflective background such as white paper, black cloth, or a metal surface to move the sensor from far to near for testing.

Excellent: Completely undetectable against highly reflective backgrounds outside the set detection distance; clear and decisive boundary at critical distances.

Poor: Penetration suppression occurs even with slightly strong backgrounds; false triggering occurs at long distances; blurry at critical distances, flickering.

2. Color Difference/Color Deviation Adaptability
Background suppression needs to adapt to different colored targets:

Excellent: Minimal deviation in detection distance for black, white, and gray objects at the same distance.

Poor: Only detects light-colored, highly reflective objects; detection distance for dark objects is significantly reduced, resulting in serious missed detections.

3. Repeatability & Hysteresis
Repeated testing at critical detection points:

Excellent: Clean switching action, minimal hysteresis, and minimal error in repeated detection position.

Poor: Jitter and frequent flickering within the critical range; prone to malfunctions.

4. Spot Size and Anti-Stray Light Ability
Small spot size design: Suitable for small workpieces and narrow-edge detection, preventing interference from surrounding materials.

Anti-ambient light: Does not trigger falsely in strong light, indoor lighting, or diffuse reflection environments; inferior products fail directly in strong light.

III. Electrical and Circuit Stability

Wide Voltage Compatibility: Standard industrial DC10~30V wide voltage range, stable output within ±15% voltage fluctuation range.

Output Signal: NPN/PNP output with no noise, no voltage drop or overheating under load.

Protection Functions: High-quality products have built-in reverse connection protection, overcurrent protection, and surge protection; generic products lack protection, and incorrect wiring will cause direct burnout.

Response Speed: High-speed models have microsecond-level response, ensuring no missed detections in high-speed conveyor belts and high-speed counting; low-end products have slow response and fail in high-speed scenarios.
