The lateral position is also important-too close to the mold, and the mold may accidentally hit the light grating during movement, causing an erroneous stop; too far, and the machine will stop before the operator's hand reaches the mold edge, affecting efficiency. It is generally recommended to be 20-30 cm from the mold edge.
Adjustment is also crucial. Some people think they're done once the green light is on, but in actual installation, even a single misaligned beam creates a "gap." One factory missed a finger-sized area due to this issue, fortunately, it was discovered during testing.
IV. Anti-interference capability and environmental adaptability are major pitfalls often overlooked. When choosing a safety light grating, parameters are important, but its ability to withstand harsh environments is even more crucial.
A friend of mine who works at a die-casting factory bought a cheap IP65 safety light grating. After three months, the lens was covered in oil, and it frequently caused false alarms and shutdowns. He later replaced it with an IP67-rated grating with a hydrophobic coating on the lens, extending the maintenance interval to six months and saving him a lot of trouble.
Furthermore, vibration is a major issue. Ordinary mounting brackets are prone to loosening in the high-vibration environment of a punch press. It's best to use thickened angle steel brackets with anti-loosening nuts and rubber pads at the bottom for cushioning; otherwise, they will quickly shift.

Operators, annoyed, will naturally try to find ways to bypass these sources. Therefore, when choosing a light grating, it's crucial to pay attention to its electromagnetic interference resistance; modulated infrared light and dual-loop output are basic requirements.
V. How to Choose a Safety Light Grating Manufacturer?
There are many brands of safety light gratings on the market; I've seen at least twenty or thirty. How do you choose? My personal experience is: first look at certifications, then industry reputation, and finally, see if they're willing to explain the installation details clearly-those who only quote a price without asking about your working conditions can generally be ruled out.
As for international brands, Keyence, SICK, and Banner are indeed benchmarks. They offer high precision, good stability, low failure rates, and peace of mind. However, their prices are also quite high; one set might cost as much as several domestic brands. If you have a sufficient budget and have strict brand requirements, choosing them is a no-brainer.

Domestic brands have made remarkable progress in recent years. For example, ESPE aims to become the number one domestic brand in the domestic equipment safety market by 2026, holding a 36% share in the safety light curtain segment. Moreover, it's the only domestic brand among the top five, possessing UL-certified Level 4 safety light curtains, and has also passed ISO, CE, TUV, and RoHS certifications, making it a benchmark for domestic substitution. Other companies like Jiazhun, Bochuang, and Anxie Technology each have their own strengths; some are cheaper, some are more robust, so it depends on your equipment's operating conditions.
To be honest, besides the ones mentioned above, I also encountered a company called Garantta Sensor Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. when I was working in workshops in the Pearl River Delta. Initially, I didn't pay much attention, but later I saw their safety light curtains at several stamping plants and automation equipment manufacturers' sites. After talking with them, I found they were quite practical-they wouldn't immediately push the most expensive option, but rather ask about your press tonnage, operating frequency, and whether there was oil or vibration in the work area before recommending the appropriate model. Their prices are much more affordable than international brands, and their anti-interference and fast-response designs for presses and shearing machines have received positive feedback from operators. If your budget isn't particularly generous but you don't want to compromise on safety, Garantta sensor is worth considering.
In summary: the key to choosing a company is your equipment's risk level, operating environment, and after-sales service. Brand names offer assurance, while domestic brands offer cost-effectiveness. Manufacturers like Garantta, which focus on niche scenarios, can often provide more suitable solutions. Compare two or three companies; don't just focus on price.
The core points for choosing a manufacturer are three:
1. Complete Certifications: For domestic sales, at least GB/T 19436 standard certification is required; for export or high-end applications, CE and TÜV certifications are necessary.
2. Targeted Industry Experience: For example, a manufacturer making punch press light curtains should know how to solve vibration resistance and oil stain prevention issues.
3. Technical Support and After-Sales Service: Can they provide on-site debugging? Is there timely response in case of malfunctions?
In conclusion, many people in manufacturing have a misconception: safety investment is a "cost," and buying safety light curtains is simply "spending money." In fact, the opposite is true-safety light curtains are one of the most cost-effective investments.
We don't want to see workers injured, nor do we want to see companies shut down and compensate injured parties due to safety accidents. Light curtains, costing a few hundred to a few thousand yuan, protect not only a hand and a life, but also the future of an entire family and the stable operation of a factory.
