Flush and non-flush 18mm inductive sensors are composed of three parts: oscillator, switching circuit, and amplification output circuit. The oscillator generates an alternating magnetic field. When a metal target approaches this magnetic field and reaches the sensing distance, eddy currents are generated in the metal target, causing the metal oscillator to attenuate and even stop vibrating. The changes in the oscillator's oscillation and oscillation are processed by the post-stage amplifier circuit and converted into switching signals, which trigger the drive control device to achieve non-contact detection purposes.

Installation precautions for 18mm inductive sensor

 

To avoid interference between inductive proximity switch, inductive sensors need to comply with certain installation requirements.

 

  • Flush installation

No metal-free area is required around the flush switch.

When installed side by side, the spacing distance between switches is required: da≥d (switch diameter)

The distance between the top of the sensor and the metal is ≥3Sn (Sn is the rated detection distance)

 

  • Non-flush installation

Non-flush switches need to provide a free area ≥ d (switch diameter) when installing

When installed side by side, the spacing distance between switches is required: da≥2d (switch diameter)

The height of the inductive prox sensor protruding from the metal mounting surface is ≥2Sn (Sn is the rated detection distance)

The distance between the top of the sensor and the metal is ≥3Sn (Sn is the rated detection distance)

Q: Can an 18mm inductive sensor detect non-metallic objects?

A: Generally speaking, it can be considered that inductive switch sensor cannot detect non-metallic objects; strictly speaking, inductive sensors can only detect conductive or magnetic objects.
An inductive sensor is a device that uses changes in coil self-inductance or mutual inductance coefficient to achieve non-electrical electrical measurement.
The coil self-inductance or mutual inductance coefficient mentioned here is actually all the factors that affect the inductance, except the coil (fixed in the sensor), when calculating the inductance (inductive proximity switch sensor can be regarded as variable inductance).
