The output of a PNP Proximity Sensor is in a high-impedance state when no object is detected. When an object is detected, the output becomes low-impedance and outputs a positive voltage signal. This type of sensor is often used in applications compatible with positive power systems.

 

Features of PNP Proximity Sensor

 

  • Output Signal: Outputs a high level when an object is detected.
  • Power Connection: Typically connected to a positive power supply.
  • Application: Suitable for control systems requiring a positive voltage signal.
  • Wiring: Connection to a positive power supply is required.

 

NPN and PNP proximity sensors are both based on the saturation and cutoff principles of transistors, resulting in two distinct output states. Both are switch-type sensors. However, there's a significant difference in their output signals: PNP sensors output a low level (0), while NPN sensors output a high level (1).

These two sensor types are further divided into six types: NPN-NO (normally open), NPN-NC (normally closed), NPN-NC+NO (both normally open and normally closed), PNP-NO (normally open), PNP-NC (normally closed), and PNP-NC+NO (both normally open and normally closed). These sensors typically have three pinouts: a power line (VCC), a 0V line, and an OUT signal output line.

In NPN sensors, when a signal triggers, the OUT signal output line connects to the power line (VCC), resulting in a high-level output voltage. Specifically, an NPN-NO sensor's output line is left floating when there's no signal trigger, and connected to VCC to output a high level when there's a signal trigger. An NPN-NC sensor, on the other hand, outputs a high level when there's no signal trigger, and leaves the output line floating when there's a signal trigger. The NPN-NC+NO sensor offers an additional output line option.

For PNP sensors, when there's a signal trigger, the signal output line OUT is connected to the 0V line, resulting in a low-level 0V output. A PNP-NO sensor's output line is left floating when there's no signal trigger, and connected to the 0V line to output a low level when there's a signal trigger; the PNP-NC sensor's opposite behavior is the opposite. The PNP-NC+NO sensor also offers two opposite-phase signal output lines.
