NPN PNP Proximity Switch operates based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. They consist of an iron core with a coil and two electrodes mounted on the core. When a metal object or target approaches the sensor, it alters the magnetic field, causing a change in current between the electrodes, which in turn drives an output signal.

 

Inductive proximity sensors are sensitive to metal objects but are ineffective at detecting non-metallic objects.

During installation and use, avoid exposing the sensor to strong magnetic fields or high temperatures to prevent degradation of its performance.

When selecting a sensor, choose the appropriate model and specifications based on the specific application scenario and requirements.

Wiring Method

 

PNP Proximity Switch is a type of sensor. They have varying wiring configurations. The most common is the three-wire connection. The two-wire connection is relatively simple, and the four-wire connection is also based on the three-wire connection. The following types are available:

 

1. Two-wire Sensor:

NO (Normally Open)

NC (Normally Closed)

Note: Two-wire connections are divided into AC (Alternating Current) and DC (Direct Current) types.

 

2. Three-wire Sensor:

NPN - NO (Normally Open)

NPN - NC (Normally Closed)

PNP - NO (Normally Open)

PNP - NC (Normally Closed)

 

3. Four-wire Sensor:

NPN (NO + NC) Normally Open + Normally Closed

PNP (NO + NC) Normally Open + Normally Closed

 

  • NPN Type Operating Process

NPN Proximity Switches are used with a positive common point (COM). The internal switch in the sensor connects the signal output line OUT to the GND (0V) power supply "-" terminal, equivalent to a low-level OUT signal output.

 

NPN (NO) Normally Open: When no signal is triggered, the signal output line OUT is disconnected from the GND (0V) power supply "-" terminal, equivalent to an open signal output. When a signal is triggered, the signal output line OUT is connected to the GND (0V) power supply "-" terminal, outputting a low-level 0V.

 

NPN (NC) Normally Closed: When no signal is triggered, the signal output line OUT outputs a low-level 0V, equivalent to GND. When a signal is triggered, the signal output line OUT is disconnected from the GND (0V) power supply "-" terminal, equivalent to an open signal output.

 

  • PNP Type Operating Process

PNP Proximity Switch has a common negative point (COM). The internal switch in the sensor connects the signal line OUT to the + terminal of the VCC (+V) power supply, effectively causing the OUT signal to output a high level.

 

PNP (NO) Normally Open: When the proximity switch is not triggered by a signal, the signal line OUT is disconnected from the + terminal of the VCC (+V) power supply, effectively causing the OUT signal output to be empty. When a signal is triggered, the output voltage is the same as the + terminal of the VCC (+V) power supply, meaning the signal line OUT is connected to the + terminal of the VCC (+V) power supply, outputting a high level.

 

PNP (NC) Normally Closed: When the proximity switch is not triggered by a signal, the output voltage is the same as the + terminal of the VCC (+V) power supply, meaning the signal line OUT is connected to the + terminal of the VCC (+V) power supply, outputting a high level. When a signal is triggered, the signal line OUT is disconnected from the + terminal of the VCC (+V) power supply, effectively causing the OUT signal output to be empty.
